American actor Ray Liotta, the star of the famous mafia film "Goodfellas" by Martin Scorsese, has died at the age of 67, US media reported.
The website "TMZ", specializing in celebrity news, citing a source close to the actor, reported that Liotta died in his sleep.
The actor died in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming a movie, the country's General Directorate of cinema said.
A spokesman for the Directorate told AFP: "our information is that (Liotta) was present" in the Dominican Republic "accompanied by his wife, who begs you to respect her grief".
The film "Goodfellas", which included prominent names, including Robert De Niro, is considered by many to be one of the most important films of the twentieth century.
In addition to his role as a mafia man in this film in 1990, Ray Liotta was known to the American public for playing the character of a baseball player in the film "field of Dreams" starring Kevin Costner in 1989.
Ray Liotta first became famous on the big screen in 1986 through his participation in the film "Samthing wild", thanks to which he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the category of Best Actor in a minor role.
