He supported Donald Trump's impeachment measures and lost the Republican nomination

Republican congressman Tom Rice lost the South Carolina primary to a candidate supported by former President Donald Trump.

Rice was defeated by Russell Fry, who was supported by Trump.

Rice was one of 10 Republican deputies who voted in favor of measures to remove Trump from office as president of the United States.

But Nancy Mayes, a congressman from the same state, from the Republican Party, who also opposed Trump, managed to win the election.

However, Nancy, after her victory, visited the Trump Tower, later as a manifestation of loyalty to him.

Rice, a staunch supporter of Trump until the Storming of the Capitol last year, then supported the Democrats in their efforts to impeach and prosecute Trump.

Trump was acquitted of political charges in Congress after Democrats launched a campaign to prosecute and impeach him. Currently, Congress is holding public hearings on accusations against Trump of inciting the Storming of the Capitol and attempting to stage a coup.

Rice has admitted that his vote against Trump may be the reason for the end of his political career but stressed that he will do what his conscience dictates.

Rice lost Tuesday's election by a margin of more than 25 points.

The rest of the Republican deputies who voted to impeach Trump, in Congress, face different circumstances in the same elections.

Congressmen Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are leading the commission of inquiry into the Storming of the Capitol, Inside the House of Representatives،

Kinzinger is not facing a rival in the elections, which are underway, but others are facing

And although Mayes did not vote to impeach Trump, she angered him, for criticizing him after storming the Capitol, and voted to recognize the victory of Joe Biden in the last presidential election.

Mayes later tried to adjust her position, recording a video clip outside the famous Trump Tower, to remind everyone that she was one of the first Trump supporters.

Trump endorsed Mayes ' rival candidate in the election, but Mayes won by a wide margin exceeding the fifty percent required to avoid a run-off vote.

Trump, who recently turned 76, told his supporters that he would like them two gifts on the occasion of his birthday, namely, the removal of rice and mace from their seats in Congress.

Analysts predict the victory of the Republican Party candidates in the elections of the state of South Carolina, over the candidates of the Democratic Party, in the midterm congressional elections, expected next November.

In South Texas, Democrats have been able to overturn the usual results for the past ten years, and the district where the majority of Latinos reside will be represented by a representative from the party in Congress.

And during a special election, in the Forty-Third District, Mayra Flores won the seat that Biden won in 2020, by a margin of 13 points.

The election comes at a time when President Biden's popularity has fallen, for the third week in a row, to 39 percent, due to economic inflation, according to an Ipsos poll organized for the Reuters news agency.
